Dear Dad,

I thought of you today.

I tried to imagine your expression when you saw me for the first time. I imagined how you must have held me all swaddled up safe and sound in your arms.

Safe and sound.

I thought about how you must have spoken love over me and committed to keeping me secure all the days of your life. And you did. You really did.

And now here I am.

I’m all grown up—44 years old today.

Dad, you can’t hold me anymore. But please, please don’t worry. It will do you no good in Heaven to worry. Just trust me that I’ll be okay. In fact, I am okay. I really am. Please believe that even though your arms are the furthest they will ever be from me I am still safe and sound.

I love you Dad,
